What You'll Need
To use Garmin maps in Basecamp, you'll need the following items

That'll let you install the Basecamp maps when you need them.
Step One: Find the Map You Want
Search for Garmin maps in your favorite search engine or on the official Garmin site. Click the download button to download the map, then save it.
A connected device with a working connection and a location on the computer are requirements for opening a map file in Basecamp.
After connecting your Garmin device to your computer, you can open the map of your choice in Basecamp.
Step Two: Prepare the Map for Download
Before you can start downloading your map, you’ll need to make sure that it is properly prepared. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Head over to the Garmin website and select the type of map that you want to download. If you don’t know what type of map you want, you can browse the selection of available maps and choose one that looks interesting to you.
2. Once you’ve chosen a map, you’ll need to select a region or area where you would like to download it. This will determine the size of the map that you’ll be downloading, as some regions have larger maps than others.
3. Next, you’ll need to decide what type of file format you want your map to be in. Garmin offers both .gmapi and .img file types, so choose whichever type you prefer.
4. Finally, click “Add to Cart” and then “Checkout” to complete your purchase. Once your payment is processed, you’ll be able to start downloading your map!

Step Three: Connect Your Device to Your Computer
In other words, link your phone to your laptop with a USB cable and be sure that the GPS is on.
The maps you need will automatically download when your Garmin connects to your computer.
Step Four: Download the Garmin Map
Once your device is connected to your computer and the map you selected is prepared, you can now download the map.
To download the Garmin maps, open Garmin Express. Here you will see a list of all available maps. Click on the map that you want to download and click the “Download” button next to it. You should then see a progress bar as the map is downloading. Once it is complete, you are ready to move onto the next step.
It's important to remember that you should always make sure your device is plugged into a power source when downloading maps. This will prevent your device from losing power in the middle of the download and having to start over.
When downloading multiple maps, Garmin Express will queue them up for you and download them one after the other. This can be helpful if you are downloading multiple maps at once and don't want to have to keep restarting your device after each one.
Once your map has been downloaded, you are now ready to move onto the next step: importing the map into Basecamp.
Step Five: Import the Map into Basecamp
Once you have the map downloaded, it's time to import it into Basecamp. To do this, connect your device to your computer and launch Basecamp. On the left side of the program, you should see a list of all the devices connected to your computer. Select the one that you want to import the map onto.
Next, click on the ‘File’ menu and then select ‘Import Data’. This will open up a file browser window. From here, navigate to the folder where you saved your map file and select it. The file should now be visible in the right hand window of Basecamp.
Finally, select the file and then click on ‘Import’. This will begin the process of importing the map into Basecamp. Depending on the size of the map and the speed of your connection, this can take a few minutes to several hours. Once complete, you will be able to view the map in Basecamp and use it on your device.
Congratulations! You have now successfully imported a Garmin map into Basecamp. Now you can start exploring new trails and navigating with confidence.
